Mudras-Postures For The Hands
Mudras are postures or asana for the hands. By stimulating the 5 elements, through the fingers, energy is allowed to move through the nadi’s (energy channels) and the charkas (energy centers). This movement of energy promotes greater health and well-being. The thumb represents fire, the index finger air, the middle finger sky or ether, the ring finger is earth and the pinky is water.
Mandala mudra (shown) is the gesture of wholeness. It invokes a sense of the self as whole and complete. It is good for balancing emotional challenges and welcoming greater clarity. Place the right hand on top of the left and touch the tips of the thumbs. Rest the hands comfortably in your lap, close your eyes and relax the breath. Sit for a minimum of 5 minutes, feeling into your experience and allow a sense of wholeness to embrace you.
